Sustainability at Pride in Southwark

Pride in Southwark is a grassroots celebration of LGBTQIA+ lives, culture, and activism, built by the community, for the community. As a locally-driven and non-corporate event, we believe in holding Pride in a way that respects the environment, uplifts people, and leaves a positive legacy for future generations.

We’re committed to sustainability in all its forms — environmental, social, and economic. Our approach centres equity, local engagement, and collective care.

Our Commitments:

🌱 Environmentally Conscious Practices

  • We prioritise low-impact infrastructure, reusing and repurposing wherever possible.

  • We work with local organisations and the local council to reduce waste and improve recycling.

  • Our events avoid unnecessary single-use items, and we actively discourage plastic freebies and branded giveaways.

  • We encourage sustainable travel to and from the event — whether on foot, by bike, or public transport.

🌈 Community over Corporations

  • Pride in Southwark is proudly free from corporate sponsorship. This means no branded floats, no advertising takeovers — just the voices, art, and activism of our community.

  • Instead of flashy branding, we spotlight local queer artists, performers, and grassroots groups doing vital work year-round.

🧡 Social Justice and Accessibility

  • We centre those most marginalised in our community.

  • We aim to make our events as accessible as possible — physically, financially, and emotionally — and welcome feedback on how we can improve.

🌍 Local Impact and Legacy

  • We work with Southwark-based volunteers, artists, traders, and community groups to keep Pride rooted in the area.

  • Our goal is to create joy, connection, and solidarity that extends beyond a single day and ripples through our borough all year round.

Pride is protest, joy, survival — and care. Our sustainability work is part of our responsibility to one another and to the planet we share. Thank you for helping us build a Pride that’s inclusive, empowering, and kind to the Earth.
